Delegation seeks to increase
ties between Washington and China

Lt. Governor Owen and his chief of
staff, Juliette Schindler Kelly, met on
May 8 with Zhang Jigang, deputy director
general of the Foreign Affairs Office of
Shandong Provincial People's Government,
to discuss Washington's ties with the
Chinese province. The lieutenant
governor has visited various cities in
Shandong three times since 2002. Trade
and tourism ties between the two regions
have strengthened over the last decade.
With Mr. Zhang were Fei Debao and Anna
Chen from the Foreign Affairs Office,
and Cui Aimin from the Shandong Marine &
Fisheries Department and Sun Maotian of
the Shandong Provincial Tourism
Adminstration. The delegation met with
Washington State's Departments of Fish
and Wildlife and Commerce as well as the
Seattle Convention and Visitors Bureau,
to promote marine industries and
tourism.

welcomes cast iron conventioneers to
Washington state

Lt. Gov. Owen welcomes the Griswold Cast
Iron Cooking Convention to the state of
Washington at a hotel in Renton on May
4. The lieutenant governor spoke about
various attractions and points of
interest throughout the state to the
conventioneers, who came from across the
U.S. and Canada. He also spoke of some
specific points of interest to the
collectors of cast iron, including the
pergola made of cast iron at Seattle's
Pioneer Square and the historic Chambers
Building in Olympia, which has a cast
iron facade.

Lt. Governor Brad Owen was the keynote
speaker before the YMCA Youth
Legislature during its opening
session in state Senate chambers on May
2.
