| Lt. Governor Brad Owen
listens to a demonstration by
Mark Schwisow, a senior
engineer at
Intermec Technologies Corp.
on the manufacturing floor at the company's Everett headquarters
on Aug. 18. To the lieutenant governor's left is
Rep. Dan Roach and to his immediate right are Rep. Lynn Kessler and
Sen. Marilyn Rasmussen, all members of the
Legislative
Committee on Economic Development and International
Relations. Earlier in the day the committee
heard from several manufacturing executives as well as
an economist from the state's Employment Security
Department to get a sense of the state of the
manufacturing industry in Washington.
Below, the committee
hears from Roy Nott, president of
Paneltech International,
a Hoquiam-based wood products company. Presenters listed
government regulations, the state's tax structure, basic
education, work ethic and health insurance costs among
common challenges they face while doing business in
Washington state. Presentations from the session are
available on this site.
The session can also be heard on
TVW.
