Ceremony honors Lt. Governor Owen,
aide, with orders of Spanish knighthood

Lt. Gov. Brad Owen accepts the 'Royal American Order of Isabella the Catholic' from Manuel Pradas Romani, the consul general of Spain in San Francisco, at an April 2 ceremony in Senate chambers in the state Capitol. To the lieutenant governor's left is his wife, Linda and mother, Laurel Willis. Dr. Antonio Sanchez, Owen's director of international trade and economic development, was also honored at the ceremony, receiving Spain's 'Royal Order of Civil Merit.'

Both awards are within the Spanish orders of knighthood and awarded for acts of chivalry and service. More information about the awards is on a
news release and the lieutenant governor's acceptance speech. The full ceremony can be viewed on TVW. You may also download a slide show featuring coverage by photographers Aaron Barna and Dick Baldwin (with background Spanish guitar music by David Staley).
