NEWS RELEASE August 6, 2007 Lt. Governor’s Art Council features two Northwest artists
OLYMPIA, Wash. – The works of
two Washington artists are now on display in the Office of Lt. Governor
Brad Owen.
“My landscapes are simple
meditations on nature,” Holgate says. “With muted colors, diffused
light and soft focus, I wish to draw the viewer into my painting for his
or her own journey. My work through its quiet strength suggests distant
memories, timeless places and a glimpse of promise.” Also on display are paintings by Whatcom County artist Jane Vanwerff. A lifelong resident of Washington state, Vanwerff draws on personal experiences for inspiring her paintings. She says this includes “the secrets of a fountain in Port Townsend, tulips from Skagit fields, and the tragic days of terrorism …” Representative paintings from these artists will hang in the Office of the Lt. Governor through Nov. 1. The works are on display under the auspices of the Lieutenant Governor’s Art Council, which has featured Washington artists since its founding in 1996. Artists are nominated by a review of their works and based on themes chosen by the council. Works and featured artists change each quarter. The council is chaired by Linda Owen, wife of the lieutenant governor. The Office of the Lieutenant Governor is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located in Room 220 of the Legislative Building (State Capitol), 416 Sid Snyder Avenue S.W. in Olympia.
