NEWS RELEASE August 29, 2008
Lt. Governor’s Art Council features
OLYMPIA – Several
panels of acrylic art inspired by nature are on display in the Office of
Lieutenant Governor, the work of artist Kevin Marc Bernstein.
Before moving recently to
Kansas to be an assistant professor at Kansas State University, Bernstein
was a resident of Seattle and had several exhibits throughout the
Northwest.
He was also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, an instructor at the University of Washington and a guest lecturer at several other institutions. "Slowing down to discover how the familiar is
unfamiliar in nature has enhanced my vision as a painter," Bernstein
said. "The ephemeral and elemental experiences in nature are a
spiritual guide to help explore painting as a journey of discovery as
well as invention." Artists for the Lt. Governor’s Art Council are nominated by a review of their works and based on themes chosen by the council. Works and featured artists change each quarter. The council is chaired by Linda Owen, wife of the lieutenant governor. The Office of the Lieutenant Governor is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located in Room 220 of the Legislative Building (State Capitol), 416 Sid Snyder Avenue S.W. in Olympia.
