Lt. Governor Owen,
left, presents Hermas Brandao, the governor of Parana
state in Brazil, with a certificate naming him an
honorary "Washington General" at a ceremony in the
capital city of Curitiba on Oct. 11. To Owen's right is
Chuck Hardaway of Maple Valley, commander of the
Washington Generals
service organization focused on youth, and an
interpreter.
The presentation
followed the signing by Owen and Brandao of a memorandum
of understanding to promote deeper ties between
Washington and Parana in trade, culture and education.
Under the agreement, the Office of the Lieutenant
Governor will help facilitate these exchanges.
Owen was in Brazil
to lead the Washington Council on International Trade's
tour on sustainable business
opportunities
and international
trade. Below, the lieutenant governor
speaks to a group of Brazilian business
leaders in
Sao Paulo,
Brazil's financial center and one the five most populous
cities in the world.
